Bridge & Culvert Maintenance
Potae Avenue Induction Day
Siteworx Civil started construction of the Potae Avenue-Nelson Road link this month. This project involves realignment of the stream and culvert upgrade; as well as building a 200m new, double-laned road with a car park.
The road extension works kicked off with an open day run by Gisborne District Council and Siteworx for the students at Sonrise Christian School who are located in the vicinity of the roadworks.
The purpose of this open day was to introduce the kids to the equipment being used onsite (eg truck and digger) and make them aware of the dangers & why it was important for them to stay away. Students were given a hi-viz vest and a name tag, and a hard hat was worn when they were sitting on the machinery. Each group was allowed to go inside the machines and culverts and have a go (supervised by a member of the Siteworx team), learning about the safety and the purpose of each one.
At the end of the day, spot prizes were given out to students who remembered key points about safety around the worksite. We had such a great day and look forward to seeing the new road open and ready for use!

Phase 1 – drainage – is complete, with the team currently working on Phase 2: Heavy Metaling. We also have a team from Higgins onsite who are giving us a hand with stabilizing the road.
